Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz released its weekly conference honors Monday with Hawks sophomore Fabian Apicellaearning his first career SUNYAC Athlete of the Week recognition.
Apicella is the third Hawk to earn the weekly honor, joining Tommy Kreider (April 1) and Anthony Pericolosi(April 8). With the selection of Apicella Monday, the three honorees are the most for SUNY New Paltz baseball since 2018.
Apicella, from Howard Beach, NY, led the team offensively in a road series win over Brockport Friday and Saturday. He was impressive in the batter's box, going 7-for-10 with three runs, four RBI and a walk, while adding two stolen bases as he hit .700 with an on-base-percentage of .727.
In a game one 10-6 win, Apicella went 2-for-3 with four RBI as he gave SUNY New Paltz the initial 2-0 lead in the fourth, before adding two more with a two-RBI base hit in the seventh to extend the score to 10-5. He went 2-for-3 once again in game two, before adding to an offensive barrage in a 10-1 win in game three where he finished 3-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases.
